About Galena

Galena serious

Galena has been dancing her whole life, and began her journey into the world of belly dance in 2004. She specializes in cabaret style drum solos, veil and spinning. More recently she has been diving into the wonderful world of American Tribal Fusion.  She loves incorporating aspects from her previous dance life into belly dance to create her own personal form of fusion belly dance.  Galena is the assistant troupe director and currently performing with troupe Sestraluna of Maryland.

So often women get hung up on how they look, what size they wear, what job they have or what they can provide for their family and they forget to take care of themselves in the process.  If Galena could do one thing for the women in the world it would be to make every woman feel just as absolutely beautiful as they really are.  Galena has found that happiness and peace through dance.

The dictionary defines bellydance as “a Middle Eastern dance in which the dancer makes sensuous movements of the hips and abdomen” or “A traditional form of dance from the Middle East, characterized by movements of the abdominal muscles.”

Both of these definitions are true however bellydance is so much more than just the physical movements. It is a visual expression of the movement. It is an implosion of energy and emotion. Bellydance is an artform where you can tell a story through light, sound, movement and expression.

Dance in general is unlike any other form of physical activity. It stimulates not only the muscles and your coordination but the creativity of your mind. In sports you can grunt with exertion but in dance you must make it look effortless. A dancer dances with every part of her body from the tip of her toes to the tip of her fingers and the slight of her head. Everything from the slightest smile to the stillness of breath is bellydance.
