A message from the organizer:
I am training with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team In Training program to prepare for and run 13.1 miles in the Baltimore Half Marathon on October 10, 2009. This will be my 3rd event that I have fundraised and ran for the LLS. Last year I ran 26.2 mile in the Baltimore Marathon and 13.1 miles in The Disney Half Marathon while raising over $7,000 for the LLS. I hope to surpass that amount this year with your help!
I am running in memory for my grandmother LaVerne Virginia Mack, who passed away in March 2009 from brain cancer and my mother-in-law Valerie Ann Richardson who passed away in August 1990 from pancreatic cancer. And in honor of my friend Allyson’s son Connor Riggs an 8 year old boy, Connor who was diagnosed with ALL at the age of 3 and underwent 2 ½ years of chemo and steroids. What will be covered in the workshop
For over a year now DC’s most spectacular Object Manipulators have joined forces, performed and taught under the title Dance Afire. Two of these talents, Surprise and Fractal, have put their heads together and come up with a two hour workshop that will introduce you to the expressions of two of our arts most dramatic tools, Hoop and Staff. Below you’ll find the basic sylabi Fractal and Surprise will use to explore first principles with you. What many outside of the practice do not know is that Hoop and staff though visually distinct, are from the wielders perspective very similar. This Workshop has been constructed to maximize your exposure to these similar techniques ensuring that you get the most out of your time with Dance Afire. As a dancer you know that technique is just the beginning. Using these first principles as a foundation Surprise and Fractal will share their unique insights as dancers on how these techniques may be integrated into your personal practice and used to accent your dance.
